REI Passage 2 tent. There is some debate about using shelters vs. tents on the trail. Personally, we like knowing no small creatures or insects are going to be crawling on us while we sleep. There’s lots of cool features to this tent. We love the double door vestibules. There’s plenty of room to put our packs outside the door while they stay protected with the rain fly, and plenty of room inside for the both of us. I don’t have to crawl over Lynn to go in the middle of the night. It has pockets in all 4 corners, plus a hammock on the ceiling for little odds and ends. Really super easy set up. It’s all color-coded with the matching footprint. REI color-codes a lot of their products. We just found these Velcro strips on the ceiling that allow you to open up small flaps for ventilation. To save weight you can create a minimalist shelter by using just the rain fly – it is big enough. Comes with guylines too.
